Students, teachers, administrators, and staff should have access to the Internet and other
forms of electronic media in accordance with the following guidelines.
1. The Superintendent will cause reasonable measures to be in place to
protect against access,
by adults and minors, to inappropriate matters on the Internet and
World Wide Web using
Board of Education technology. Visual depictions that are:
(1) obscene,
(2) pornographic, or with respect to the use of computers,
(3) harmful to minors shall be filtered or blocked or limited as much
as practical.
2. Use of the Board of Education Technology will be subject to
monitoring to identify unauthorized
access, including "hacking" activities, and other unlawful
activities by minors and adults using the
Savannah-Chatham County School System computer network.
3. Use of the Internet shall be subject to guidelines prohibiting the
unauthorized disclosure, use, and
dissemination of personal information regarding minors and as provided
on the Internet Use
Agreement (See Policy ECH), and Board policy.
4. The manager of Information Resources will ensure that the
installation, maintenance, and ongoing
monitoring of a firewall and filtering software must be in place to
facilitate Internet safety and security
for all computer users accessing the Internet or World Wide Web through
the Savannah-Chatham
County School System computer technology network.
5. The Internet Use Agreement Form will provide Internet Guidelines and
includes the use of electronic
mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic
communication.
